Last Day

Today is the last day for a lot of things.  It's the last day that we're a family of five; the last day that Susan is an orphan; the last day for Ivan to be the "baby" of the family (he's pretty excited about that, I think); last day for Thaddeus to be the shortest in our family; and the last day that Sawyer thinks his brothers make a lot of noise.

This morning we flew from Beijing to Zhengzhou, the capital city of Henan province.  On the bus ride from the airport to our hotel, our guide filled us in on everything that we'll be doing while we're here and gave each family an update on its child. We found out that Susan gets along well with other children; likes stuffed toys; does not like rice; and has a friend named Tao Tao.  We also found out when she eats and sleeps.  Can't wait to meet her tomorrow!!

We're staying in a beautiful hotel - everything is very upscale.  There's only one little thing that lets us know we're in an unusual place. We aren't allow to flush the toilet paper.  Everything needs to go in the trash can beside the toilet!

Scooters on the Sidewalk
The smog is so thick here in Zhengzhou. It's hard to breathe.  I actually broke out the surgical masks that we brought with us for our walk to Walmart this evening.  I felt ridiculous but I fit right in with the Chinese - so many of them wear the masks. At Walmart we bought supplies that we need for the next few days (the formula she uses, a stroller, snacks that she likes…) The walk to Walmart was crazy.  The motor scooters use the sidewalk with the pedestrians - at whatever speed they want it seems.  Usually there was only one person on a scooter, sometimes two, but every now and then there'd be a dad, mom, and little kid on there.
