Little Susan had a rough night. We all got more sleep overall but she woke up
so many times that I lost count. Up to
now her crying has been just pathetic baby crying – so sad but she’d let us
hold her to help comfort her. Last night
was different. She was wailing and
calling for Mama over and over. By the
way she was so inconsolable, I knew she wasn’t talking about me (mama in
Chinese is the same word). She must be
grieving the loss of her foster family and her life there. Please pray for her little heart that she
begins to trust us and know that we’re always going to be there to take care of
her. We know long-term that she’s going
to have a better life with a family than in the orphanage but the transition is
so hard.
Sawyer and Susan |
Daytime was better than nighttime. She had some tears but also some
laughter. She also spends a lot of time
staring off into space. She seems to do
this when there’s a lot going on around her and she’s feeling overwhelmed.
This morning we went to the location of where she was
abandoned. We only knew that it was 500
meters south of a certain intersection.
We had no idea what we’d find there.
Or if we’d be able to tell where she was left. I’m really glad we went. It turns out that there’s a park all along
both sides of the road at that location.
We took some pictures so we can tell her that part of her story when the
time comes.
At Susan's Finding Location |
We went out again for dinner tonight. Even though it was Pizza Hut it’s always an
adventure to figure out the menu (different from home) and talk to the servers. And of course navigating along the sidewalk
with all the scooters is just another part of the adventure.
The last couple of days have been very windy which has been
good for smog levels but it started closing in again tonight.
I don’t have too many pictures from today so I’m including
one from last night of Sawyer and Susan.
I don’t have too many pictures of the boys with her yet. She lets them make her laugh but they aren’t
allowed to hold her yet. She’ll get there
though. She doesn’t seem afraid of them
anymore.
